The barrier consists of two separate pieces; the housing unit which is installed on the door jamb and the receiving bar which is installed on the door. When engaged, the barrier automatically draws from within the housing unit as the door is opened and provides a barrier across the expanse created by the opened door. You can see over and out, but the pet cannot escape.
The barrier material is a reinforced, opaque vinyl that is puncture and tear resistant.
The sleekly designed housing unit is an unobtrusive "tube" 33 in high by 2.5 in in diameter. It mounts either way on the door jamb and holds the actual barrier.
The second of the two pieces, the receiving bar, mounts just below the door handle of the door. When you connect the housing unit to the receiving bar, the barrier is ready for use. Each time you open the door, the barrier draws across the opening and prevents the pet slipping out.
Actual barrier measures 30.5" H x 54" L (we do not recommend drawing the barrier farther than 48" L to allow for the "give" necessary should your pet push up against it.)
